Love & Resistance “Blackout Edition” is the next in a series of dance parties put on by Extinction Rebellion PDX (XR PDX). This indoor and live-streaming event with a live band will be held at Musician's Local 99, Sunday, November 30th from 6-9pm. It will celebrate and promote BLACKOUT THE SYSTEM a general strike and boycott, which is being held nationally Nov 25 - Dec 2. There will be tabling by the War Tax resisters, XR, and others.
The Dan Kaufman Band (western, rock, & blues) will bring dance music with message (think the Clash, Jimmy Cliff, Johnny Cash). Live-stream (and recording) by The Earth is Dying Productions will be available to watch on various platforms.
The show is free and open to the public with a suggested donation of $10-20. 100% of the door proceeds will go to the Deportation Defense Coalition. Potluck finger-food & deserts.
Musicians Union Local 99 is located at 325 NE 20th in so-called Portland, Oregon (enter at the side parking-lot doorway).
"While Oregon Burns", AI, and the warzone
A DKB video that was on the shelf for several years finds it's way to the internet. Because, as you may have heard, Portland is burning. AI was used to help make this video but all the footage was shot in reality. After the video, Dan shares some thoughts the war-zone that is Portland about where we go from here. Love & Resistance Dance Party
Join us from dusk to dark for the Love & Resistance dance party at the “Pod” sculpture across from Powell’s City of Books on West Burnside Street. 7pm August 15th. Featuring The Dan Kaufman Band.
Emma Goldman once said “If I can’t dance, it’s not my revolution!”
If we can’t make real human connections in the real world, the resistance will be assimilated by the SiliCON valley. And If we can’t take time to find joy and camaraderie then our fight will likely be hollow and short lived. So we’ll be dancing in the streets! Bring your friends and make new ones. Dance and demonstrate your desire for the better world that IS possible! Organized by Extinction Rebellion PDX (XR PDX)

Lyrics to MR. WHEEL
VERSE I
Mr. Wheel we see you, the things that you do
And what you won’t do!
What you won’t do, what you say
The people who pay
And who pays for you
Who pays for you? Now what do THEY get out-of-it? We’re gonna add it up
CHORUS
Add it up
Count it up
Count it up but
You can’t take it with you when you’re gone, you know?
Add it up
Count it up
Count it up but you can’t take it with you
Where you’re going to
VERSE II
Mr. Knight well they gave you a stick
They make you use it
You got no choice now
Got no choice but to do what they say
And then you take home the pay
But who pays for you
We pay for you
But what do we get but the back of your stick
We’re gonna add it up
CHORUS
Harmonica Solo
VERSE III
Mr White they stole all the land
On which we now stand
It’s just the way it is
The way it is, the way you want it to stay
But it’s washing away
And who pays for it
The future pays but what do they get out of it
They’re gonna add it up
French Horn Solo
Chorus
Mr. Wheel we see you, the things that you do
And what you won’t do

Live performance of Kaufman's "Just Begun" used in awareness-raising video
A few weeks ago Dan played at the "Flat Country" Timber sale protest on The McKenzie river organized by Oregon Wild and Cascadia Wild. YouTube channel "Climate Crisis Progressive" used audio of the live recording of Dan's original song "Just Begun" played at the rally during the end part of the video. The video is being used to raise awareness about the proposed clear cut on the headwaters of the McKenzie River.
Learn more about this old-growth timber sale by watching the video below and check out this post at Oregon Wild.
